Breeding Program

8,500 member farms strive for continuous improvement of their herds. For this reason, they are members of a Herd Book organization (SRV, WEU, ZEH) and operate a breeding program together with MASTERRIND, differentiated according to breeds.

Breeding Program Holstein:

On behalf of its members, MASTERRIND operates the largest breeding program of the Holstein breed in Germany. Goal is to continuously improve the economics of dairy farming. The focus of the program is on health, longevity and productivity of the herd in accordance with genetic diversity. Targeted breeding improvements are achieved by a careful selection and reproduction of suitable animals. Here, the largest contribution is provided by choosing elite males with the aid of genomic selection and subsequent progeny testing. Only the best bulls emerging from this program qualify for artificial insemination. Each year, 90 selected Holstein bulls are purchased by MASTERRIND. Their semen is used by members through targeted selection of suitable bulls that will improve their herds. In addition, members can multiply the best females by embryo transfer or Ovum Pick-up through in-vitro-fertilization. Our specialists are available to support these services.
